View of sectioned-off areas in the 426-acre campus of Los Angeles Pierce College. The two-year community college, which is part of the Los Angeles Community College District, opened as the Clarence W. Pierce School of Agriculture in September 1947, with 70 students and 18 faculty members. The school's initial focus was crop cultivation and animal husbandry, and still retains a large swatch of open fields for hands-on working farm training. In 1956 the school was renamed Los Angeles Pierce College, retaining the name of its founder, Dr. Pierce. Notable alumni include: actors, Melanie Griffith and Mark Harmon, and baseball players Barry Zito and Doug DeCinces, to name but a few. The school's mascot is a Brahma Bull named "Clarence the Bull". In the background are buildings at the nearby Warner Center. Photograph dated February 4, 2005.
