Description
Shown is the "Empire," circa 1975. Starting out numbered 13, this locomotive had its number changed several times due to superstition. Shortly after it was built in 1873, the number was altered to 15. It was renumbered again to 501 in 1924. By 1938, the Pacific Coast Chapter of Railway and Locomotive Historical Society acquired the engine for preservation purposes.
