Description
An illustration of the State Agricultural Pavilion, the exhibition grounds for the State Agricultural Society. It was designed by San Francisco architect M.F. Butler built over the summer of 1859 using brick and lumber, with a roof and flooring constructed using wood from Puget Sound. It hosted the California State Fair in September of that year and 1860 before becoming its fixed location in 1884, a role which lasted until 1905 when the fair moved to the new fairgrounds near Broadway and Stockton.
