Description
Brigadier General Herman Haupt (a civil engineer for the Union Army) in the Potomac River on a float made of two small rubber cylinders, commonly used for scouting purposes. There are two ships sailing in the background and random pieces of wood raising out of the water on both sides of the general. Title on mount: Gen. Haupt's way of crossing rivers. Handwritten in upper left corner: No. 40.
