The 400-acre Ring Mountain Open Space Preserve was preserved after a battle to save what had been pristine grazing land from massive development and the discovery of the rare Tiburon mariposa lily, which grows nowhere else on earth. The Nature Conservancy led the acquisition effort and Ring Mountain Preserve was dedicated on April 23, 1983. The Marin County Open Space District has managed the preserve since 1995.
