When they were honored by the Los Angeles Breakfast Club on September 30, 1943, Coast Guard Spars got a ride on Ham, the club's official initiation horse. Lieut. (j.g.) Lea A. Burke and Ensign Virginia Wingert are getting the ride in this photo, surrounded by, left to right, Spars Dettenthaler and Doolittle, Ensign Peterson, Spars Williams, Dorton, Cherney and Ensign Vogel.
