Description
Republican mural, Rockville Street, St James, Belfast. Mural commemorates Ciaran Nugent, IRAvolunteer, 'POW The First Blanketman'; Nugent was the first Republican prisoner to refuse to conform to the new prison regime after the introduction of the 'criminalisation' policy in 1976 and the abolition of 'special status'; for paramilitary prisoners. Nugent died in 2000.
