Description
Willis H. Shapley addressing guests at the dedication of the 60-inch telescope, Palomar Observatory. Shapley is standing behind a podium inside the Oscar G. Mayer memorial building that houses the telescope. Two unidentified men are also seen; one on the lower left-hand croner and another to Shapley's left, in the audience. An empty chair is to Shapley's left. A small portion of the telescope is seen in the upper left-hand corner. The observatory's balcony is behind Shapley.
