Description
Plates in: Redwood and lumbering in California forests. San Francisco, Cal. : Edgar Cherry & Co., 1884. Plate 61 opp. page 92. Lumber stacked on wharf. "Dolbeer & Carson, 6x52 inches 16 ft clear, Bay Mill, Eureka, clear, Humboldt Co, Cal" -- lettered across photo. 2010-6559. Martin White's Bay Mill established in 1850 (located on Front Street, between L and M); plant sold to John Dolbeer in 1856; mill destroyed in 1860 and rebuilt by Dolbeer (known as Bay Mill No. 2). In 1863 went into partnership with William Carson.
