2008-2838 PHOTO: LOS ANGELES COUNTY: COLD BROOK CAMP Postcards created by B.D. Jackson based on family camping trips to Cold Brook Camp. Shows camp along stream. Tent in background. Man and woman seated (with dog) in center. Paper lanterns suspended from ropes strung between trees, hammock in front, chairs, camp stove/fireplace in background with coffeepots. Fishing poles stacked in center of clearing, fishing creel and canteen hanging on tree. Sign tacked to tree reads "Armstrong Camp June 25-09". Cold Brook Camp, located within the Angeles National Forest, very popular with campers. Started out as hunter's camp owned by R.W. Dawson. In 1901, land leased to Doc Beatty who opened hostelry called Squirrel Inn. In 1907, Dawson took over the Inn renaming it Cold Brook Camp. Eventually built hotel, cabins and tents. Was popular in early 1900's and into the 1920's.
