Description
Survival school student Brian Schwarz wears straw over his camouflage attire, carries a rifle in his hand, and walks carefully through an obstacle course. The 160-acre camp, better known as the Starlight Training Center in Liberal, Missouri, was owned by Harry Claflin, a former U.S. Marine in Vietnam. The students are U.S. civilians with different backgrounds and professions who paid money in exchange for survivalist training. At the time, Schwarz was a 30-year-old civilian from Breese, Illinois, who worked in retail and owned a hardware store. Claflin studied the tactics, troop proficiency, and military effectiveness of foreign countries like those in Central America where he trained Guatemalan, Nicaraguan, and Salvadoran special forces.
