Description
Charlotte Chandler discusses her book, “It’s Only a Movie.” She begins by explaining that the book is a biography of the British director Alfred Hitchcock whom she had met and interviewed prior to his death in 1980. Chandler shares the story of how Hitchcock met and fell in love with his wife Alma and discusses their close relationship. She goes on to explain that the book includes summaries of each of Hitchcock’s films except for one, "The Mountain Eagle." “The Mountain Eagle” was a British silent picture and was lost at its time of release. Also in this interview, Chandler discusses how Hitchcock made a film about the concentration camps of World War II and the residents who lived in the surrounding towns and feigned ignorance of the camps. Some of Hitchcock's films discussed in this interview include “The 39 Steps,” “Rebecca,” and “Notorious.”
