Description
"Eine Ohrenbehandlung im Freien." ("Treatment of ears outdoors."). African mothers with babies and children are sitting on the ground in front of a hut. Among them a European nurse medicating a child. On the left: phials, little jars and other medical objects.
Elise Schärf (1892-?) was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine. She was a deaconess and received training not only as a nurse but also in the care of mothers and lepers. She served from 1928 for many years at the leprosy hospital in Isoko.-- The picture might have been taken in 1938.
