Description
Photograph of an illustrated map of the town of Monrovia, Los Angeles, [s.d.]. An aerial view of the town is pictured in the large frame at center with mountains visible in the background and the names of streets written in across the roads themselves. This frame is surrounded by thirteen smaller frames, each picturing a different important building in the town, such as the church or the Pioneer Stable. A train passes by in the frontmost road of the center frame. The caption beneath the map reads "MONROVIA. The Most Flourishing Town and Colony in Southern California. Founded by W.N. Monroe, E.F. Spence, J.D. Bicknell and J.F. Crank, May 17th, 1886. Situated in the ORANGE BELT along the foothills of the Sierra Madres, sixteen miles from Los Angeles, at an elevation of 1,000 feet: immediately at the bast of the mountains and overlooking the SAN GABRIEL VALLEY. No Frosts. Abundance of pure water, and the best climatic conditions in the State."
