This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text printed on photo: "239. Blowing up of the Phelan Building San Fr." Text written under photo: "Market St, looking East afternoon April 19, 1906" which is inaccurate since the Phelan Building was dynamited sometime after the fire had burned itself out. View looks northeast on Market from Powell Street. The Flood Building is at the left, with the smoke from the exploding Phelan Building beyond it. The Call Building and the Emporium are on the right. Two men are standing on the safety island at the right watching the demolition. Copy of a halftone.
