Description
Fewer than five years from the country's entry into the Second World War, this May 11, 1937, photograph captures a military training class in progress at Grant Union High School. In 1943, the high school was chosen as the site for a Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) signal training center, while in 1945, the school (then also a junior college) purchased four military planes with the intent of forming a ground school for flight training. The planes were a P-38 Lightning, a P-51 Mustang, a B-17 Flying Fortress, and a B-24 Liberator.
