Description
Paul Masson (1859-1940) Santa Clara County's local histories disagree such details as Masson's birth date and the time of his arrival in California, But they all agree he was important enough in every phase of winemaking to merit far more than ordinary notice. Soon after his arrival in California, he went to work for Lefranc and, as Sullivan put it, "became very much involved with the overall business of the Winery." He even married Lefranc's daughter Louise, just as Lefranc had married Thee's daughter Marie Adele. He also engaged in a partnership with Henry Lefranc while entering business for himself. His acquisition of grape growing land in the hills above Saratoga enable him to reach the forefront as a champagne producer.
