Description
Photograph of an empty street in Independence showing the Levi Hotel after the fire, ca.1887-1888. The broad dirt road is at center and is lined with large wooden buildings. There are no vehicles or pedestrians on the road, but the dirt is marked by wheel tracks. The buildings all have covered porches and dark roofs. A lodging house in the foreground at right has a yard fenced in by a wooden picket fence. A line of thin, leafless trees is in the foreground at right. In the distance at left, the tops of several large mountains are faintly visible.
