Description
Photograph of a lithograph depicting Sutter's Fort in Sacramento, 1847. The fort is pictured at the center of the drawing, its long, featureless walls stretching almost across the entire image. At the left end of the fort is a tower with a slanted roof and the barrels of cannons protruding from holes cut to accommodate them. Inside the walls of the fort several chimneys are visible along other buildings, probably barracks, and another tower with artillery inside. Atop one of the interior buildings is a large American flag. In front of the fort, there are three soldiers, and in the foreground on the right there is a brick building with a sign that reads "S. B [...]", while on the left, there is a lone tree.
