Description
This 1920 photograph shows the distinct twin-spired St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, located at 1112 Twenty-sixth Street. Built for 100,000 dollars, the church's cornerstone was laid on October 10, 1908, and then dedicated on October 23, 1910. Its architect was Brother Adrian Wewer, who sought to model the church after the Mission Santa Barbara. It replaced the original parish church was stood at Twenty-Fifth and K Streets from 1895 to 1910. In the foreground, are the west grounds of Sutter's Fort. Sutter's Fort became a member of the California State Park System in 1947.
