Description
Contains moving images of the Sacramento Northern Excursion, on July 4, 1950. It begins with a black & white sequence at Sacramento Northern’s 40th & Shafter terminal in Oakland, showing switching activity and the passing of Key System streetcars on 40th St. The excursion train (Sacramento Northern MW car 302 and BAERA observation trailer 751) heads east over the Oakland Hills with a photo stop at Eastport (east end of the tunnel). The rest of the video is in color, beginning with a stop at Moraga and nice footage from the observation car as the train departs. The train passes West Pittsburg and runs onto the car ferry “Ramon” for the trip over the Bay to Chipps. From there it’s on to Sacramento where there are some interesting shots along Front St. at the Tower Bridge. The video also includes some out of sequence footage on the Holland Branch south of Riverview and what appears to be footage at the sugar factory in Clarksburg.
