Description
Bust-length portrait. Dated and signed by artist in lower right corner "G. A. Yound, 1869" (last name possibly Young?, artist may be George A. Young).
1990-1680.
Born in Ireland in 1824 of Scottish-Irish parents. Emigrated to United States. Arrived in California via Panama route in 1849. Settled in Sacramento where worked for variety of newspapers (Placer Times, Settlers and Miners Tribune) before founding Sacramento Bee in 1857. Died in 1883.
