The unedited transcript of Phalana Tiller's interviews with Paul O'Neill and Rob Curry for the January 2013 episode of Drucker on the Dial entitled "Good Medicine." Paul O'Neill, former United States Secretary of the Treasury, explains how he became interested in healthcare, and his work with the Veterans Administration and the Pittsburgh Regional Healthcare Initiative. He says that it is important for people in leadership positions to learn from anything that has gone wrong, by analyzing their root causes, and modifying systems and procedures. O'Neill talks about eliminating hospital acquired infections, and the need for transparency in hospitals. He explains the three questions people should be able to answer without reservation or hesitation at work everyday, and talks about two really good medical care institutions. O'Neill says that in order for societies to get better, they have to make productivity improvements. He explains that this means getting greater value out of resources consumed. He shares his thoughts on tracking things that have gone wrong in hospitals, and eliminating medical malpractice. O'Neill also talks about Obamacare, and financial access to medical care. He goes on to say that he would like to be remembered for making a difference in society, and in the lives of the people in society. Next, Rob Curry, the chief executive officer of Citrus Valley Health Partners, talks about the organization's turnaround from apathy. He says that entitlement is no longer acceptable in healthcare, and that there has to be an exchange that is mutually beneficial. Curry explains aligning physician behavior outcomes with desired results, and says that healthcare will not be hospital centric in the years ahead. He talks about his background, and explains why he came to Citrus Valley Health Partners. Curry goes on to say that he would like to be remembered as somebody who loved his family, and for doing everything he potentially could, to do what was right.
