Description
The photo caption published in the Sacramento Bee on February 10, 1963 states: "Above is a portion of the fuel break after it was logged but before the cleanup designed to slow down a raging fire. After clearing of slash and debris and the thinning and pruning of saplings, the same area, below (photo SBPM06646), was photographed by the United States Forest Service. The clearing, researchers hope, would put the brakes on a rolling fire and give crews a chance to attack it."
