Description
Prune drying yard, looking northeast. Several men are carrying trays, a horse is hitched to stacked cars of fruit. The Southern Pacific railroad tracks are on the right. The sky has been painted in. Note: The drying yard covered 17 acres south of Campbell Avenue near Alice Avenue between Winchester Boulevard and the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks to Santa Cruz. Brass plate (1988-4-1) affixed to original frame: "Prune Drying Grounds of the Campbell Fruit Growers Union near San Jose, Cal. The Largest Fruit Drying Plant in the World, 25,000 3' x 8' trays in sight, A. P. Hill, photographer."
