Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes.
The city of Hemet is in the San Jacinto Valley in Riverside, California. One of the city's claims to fame has been “The Ramona Outdoor Play,” formerly known as “The Ramona Pageant,” an outdoor play based on Helen Hunt Jackson’s novel Ramona. Held in the Ramona Bowl, an outdoor amphitheater, the pageant is the longest running outdoor play in the United States. It has run uninterrupted except in 1933 during the Great Depression, and in 1942 during World War II. In 1993 it was declared California’s official State Outdoor Play.
Photograph caption dated April 15, 1958 reads "Left is pretty Sandra DuBow who will star as Ramona this season." See image 00156035 for additional photo in this series.
