Thought for the day by Charles Handy on doing what one wants to do in life in order to be happy and satisfied, even if it poses a risk. Handy begins the thought discussing how people, in spite of society's progress, are still engaged in 'defensive thinking,' playing it safe and not taking financial risks. He proceeds to comment on how this way of thinking forces people to also be conservative in terms of the work they do, arguing that in working, people are sticking to what they know they can do, even if their hearts are not in to it, and even if it is clear that their duties are no longer relevant. Handy goes on to describe how getting rid of defensive thinking in his own life has aided his personal and professional growth, and cites the Gospel of Thomas to support his claim on the importance of being true to one's self and calling.
