Description
"Miss Low and Native Teachers." Group portrait of teaching staff at Domasi School, Nyasaland [Malawi]. The Domasi Mission was founded by Rev. Alexander Hetherwick in 1884. It is one of a number of important missions extending from Blantyre, in Southern Malawi and takes its name from the largest river that flows into Lake Shirwa [Chilwa] on the western shore. It was situated north of Blantyre, near to Mount Zomba. The mission was central to medical work in the area, and trained girls in industrial and domestic work.
