Photograph caption dated November 5, 1987 reads, "Residents of an apartment building at 6858 Kester St. in Van Nuys survey the damage today after an early-morning explosion injured six people, blew out windows a block away and forced the evacuation of 10 units. One man, who was burned, is believed to have caused the blast when he turned on gas jets in his apartment while attempting to commit suicide. Police Sgt. Frank Guarino said the burned man was blown out of his second-story window."
