"Oberhäuptling Mukoma." ("Paramount chief Mukoma.") Mukoma is wearing a traditional headdress and European clothes. The image shows the upper part of his body. Mukoma is the title of the ruler in Inamwanga who perceives himself as a sacral ruler. Chief Mukoma supported Brother Gemuseus and Brother Tietzen in finding a suitable place for a new Mission station in Inamwanga. -- Oskar Gemuseus (1874-1959) was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine. He served as headmaster from 1907 to 1916, as mission superintendent of Nyassa [Nyasa] Province from 1925 to 1930, as bishop from 1932 to 1939. Starting in 1939 he wrote a history of the mission in Nyasa Province ("Wechselnde Gezeiten an den Gestaden des Nyassa"). His wife was Mathilde, née Richter. Having married Hildegard Marie Lenz in 1921 and served in South Africa (West) from 1922 to 1927, he moved to East Africa, where he served in Mbozi till 1929 and in Utengule till 1939. In the 1950s he returned to South Africa. -- Werner Hauffe (1909-1982) was a carpenter and later a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine. From 1933 to 1939, he served in Rungwe, Utengule and Isoko. In Utengule, he was an assistant to Brother Gemuseus. In 1937, he married Irmgard Wolff.
