N.G.C." are carved into the stone on the building front. With additional visible signs for Robert Sharp & Co. undertakers & embalmers (751-753 South Spring Street), "Buckhorn Water and Health," and "Imported Cigars." Writing on back of print says "L.A. Cal." Title devised by cataloger. Date devised by cataloger based on history of businesses; Robert Sharp & Co. first appear at the 751 Spring Street address in the 1898 Los Angeles City Directory, and Wright & Callender are only listed at 235 West Third through the 1898 directory. Beginning in 1898, the Copeland Building served as an armory for the National Guard of California.
