The woman had an operation for cataract on her eyes, it was necessary, especially as the husband has on eye himself." ❧ Photograph of an older couple standing in front of a tree, both are visually impaired and each holds a bamboo cane. ❧ Blantyre Mission was established in 1876 in South Malawi [Nyasaland] by Henry Henderson (1843-1891) and excelled in medical and educational provision. The mission was named after the birth place of David Livingstone in South Lanarkshire. ❧ This image belongs to an album of photographs collected by Dr. Stevenson and includes images from India, China and Africa.
