Description
Non-operational mock-up created by Philco-Ford. Card created by Foothill Electronics Museum, accompanying the satellite model, reads: MILSAT 100 lb satellite. One panel of solar cells has been removed to give an inside view of this Philco laboratory mock-up of a military navigation type satellite. The vacant mounting studs and disconnected plugs indicate removal of classified hardware. This satellite is divided into three general sections -- the outside skin completely covered with solar cells to keep the batteries charged, the upper half where the engine and radio equipment is located and the lower covered portion (below the shelf) in which is located fuel tanks, batteries and control gas tanks. The two cone-shaped items on alternate corners are doublet antennas and the two red funnel-shaped items on opposite corners are control gas jets.
