Description
James B. Randol was the general manager of the New Almaden Quicksilver Mines from July 1870 to March 1892. Under Randol the Quicksilver Mining Company experienced its most prosperous years. Randol increased efficency in the mines, added Cornish miners from England to the workforce, and Randol improved community at New Almaden by establishing the "Miners' Fund" an early form of health insurance and providing buildings for recreation and entertainment.
