Photograph article date stamped May 22, 1965 partially reads, "College coeds, for many years restricted to pom-pom waving and husband hunting, have turned their interests in part, towards the sport of gymnastics. Originally thought to be strictly for the male set, the ladies get their day next Friday in the Southern California junior college women's gym meet hosted by Valley College. It marks the first such meet to be hosted by the Van Nuys school, and the first of its kind anywhere for women... Rated as one of the tops in her field is Monarch Irene Vanda, 18, who swept Valley's two previous meets."
