Description
Republican mural, Rockville Street, St James, Belfast. Mural commemorates Ciaran Nugent, IRAvolunteer, 'POW The First Blanketman'; Nugent was the first Republican prisoner to refuse to conform to the new prison regime after the introduction of the 'criminalisation' policy in 1976 and the abolition of 'special status' for paramilitary prisoners. Nugent died in 2000.
