Wesley R. Brazier, executive director of Los Angeles Urban League states, "considerable progress is being made on the part of both power structures of the community. There is now a greater awareness of the problems of the minority. Prior to the present time there were many individuals who were not aware of these problems. With awareness there has developed a sincere desire on the part of many to give complete equality. There are still many individuals who do not believe minority groups should have equal rights. But the bulk of good thinking people in Los Angeles are in favor of equality. Demonstrations when handled correctly tend to highlight the urgency of a need, to correct then now and not to wait for the next 100 years. The pace of desegregation will be accelerated in the future. We are waiting for more tangible results". Mr. Brazier holds a copy of a resolution given to the Los Angeles Dodgers for meritorious service. Photo dated: May 8, 1958.
