The Fourth of July Parade has been a hallmark of Huntington Beach since 1904 when Henry Huntington brought his rail line into town on that day. It has been held every year since with the exception of the war years, 1942-1946. Organizers over the years included a number of civic groups but in the 1970's a Special Committee was formed to oversee the parade in anticipation of the coming Bicentennial. This film shows the 1973 parade, the earliest known parade to be filmed. These parades were wildly popular throughout the region. So much so, the 1976 parade three years later was officially adopted by the State as California's Bicentennial Parade. Written on film reel: "July 4 Parade 1973"
