President Gerald Ford speaks of the need to support private educational institutions at the dedication of the Firestone Fieldhouse on Pepperdine University’s Malibu campus, with an estimated 18,000 people in attendance. President Ford also received an honorary doctor of law degree from Pepperdine University on this occasion. Actor John Wayne led the pledge of allegiance, and other honored guests included Fritz Huntsinger, Jr., Richard Seaver, Leonard K. Firestone, William S. Banowsky, Richard Scaife, and Fritz Huntsinger.
