Northridge Receiving Hospital, later renamed Northridge Hospital, then Northridge Hospital Medical Center, was founded by Dr. Frederick Gruneck in 1955. Photograph caption dated February 23, 1957 reads, "Wife comforts Valley sniper victim - Mrs. Margaret Murphy comforts her husband, Daniel J. Murphy, 40, at Northridge Receiving Hospital. Victim was shot in hip by sniper as he was cutting his lawn at 5358 Louise Ave., Encino. Police said that this was second sniper shooting within past nine days. Murphy said, 'It felt like I was hit by a sledge hammer.'" See image 00153322 for additional photo in this series.
