Description
A crowd of people hold posters and banners in support of presidential candidate Ángel Aníbal Guevara. One poster reads, "Today's new era with Guevara and Ponce Monroy," which contains a portrait of each candidate." On March 8, 1982 Guevara won the presidential election although electoral fraud was claimed by other parties. A military coup prevented Guevara from assuming power and installed a three-man junta headed by General Efraín Ríos Montt.
