Description
The photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on August 23, 1966 states: "Portions of W and X Streets tomorrow will become one way in preparation for the opening next week of the Pioneer Memorial Bridge, which can be seen in the background. The arrows indicate how Interstate 80 traffic will go on and off the span. From 5th to 19th Streets, X Street will become one way eastbound and W Street one way westbound. Ribbon cutting ceremonies for the bridge will be held next Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. on the eastbound deck. Motorists westbound will enter W Street from 15th Street and eastbound traffic will turn north on 16th Street. The freeway section from 5th to 16th Streets will be ready for traffic a year from now and from there to 30th Street in 1968."
