Photograph caption dated March 11, 1964 reads, "Actress Bettye Ackerman, honorary Los Angeles county chairman for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of America, presents awards to Valley volunteers who assisted in the 1963 fund-raising drive. Named District Leader of the Year was Mrs. Dorothy Felton of Van Nuys, center, while Mrs. Barbara Goldman, right, was selected as Area Leader of the Year. The Valley Times also received a Citation of Merit from MDAA for tis support of last year's Valley drive which raised $54,000. Of this, $33,000 was raised in the three-day house-to-house campaign alone. The actress, featured in TV's 'Ben Casey' series, was special guest at the annual MDAA Valley Awards Luncheon held Tuesday at the Sportsmen's Lodge, Studio City. More than 50 awards were presented."
