Photograph caption dated September 9, 1961 reads, "The purchase of actor Mickey Rooney's former home (top picture) on Blairwood drive in Studio City was announced Thursday by Los Angeles Mayor Yorty, who said it was a surprise for his wife. Yortys and their son will move from their present house (lower picture) at 12946 Dickens St., Studio City, to their new home in a few weeks after it has been remodeled and painted. The mayor said he bought the house for around $45,000 at a foreclosure sale. 'It has a beautiful view in two directions, a beautiful lot with many trees and a swimming pool,' said the mayor, who will sell his old house to finance the new one."
