Description
Tinted lantern slide showing a group of people from the Tharu and Dhangar ethnic groups. The Tharu people are an ethnic group indigenous to the southern foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal. The Dhangar group are traditionally farmers, warriors, shepherds and blanket and wool weavers, and have settled in both the north and south of India. The group is made up entirely of men. Tribeni is in modern West Bengal. This slide comes from a collection created by missionaries from Regions Beyond Missionary Union, an interdenominational Protestant evangelical mission working in northeast India (Bihar and Orissa) and Nepal.
