Description
Photographic portrait of a group of children posing on the school steps in Bellflower, 1890. An adult woman, presumably the school mistress, is pictured at the bottom of the steps to the left, clothed in a long dress and longsleeved blouse. The children appear to be grouped by age, the youngest children on the ground with the teacher, or on the earlier steps while the older children occupy higher steps until teenagers are present on the stoop of the school building. All of the girls wear dresses and the boys' attire varies from suits to suspendered pants and dress shirts.
