Description
Photographic portrait of a rice farmer standing in the field with his rake, China, ca.1900. A short, slim man can be seen at center dressed in a tunic and chinos. He holds his large, flat-tipped rake to the left. The soil is clumped and clotted beneath him and is run into furrows. Trees are visible in the background. A previous record reads: "Rice has been planted in flooded land and now the plants have grown and the soil is dry enough for the farmers to cultivate around each plant".
