Description
Photograph caption dated March 4, 1988 reads, "Stuffed animal sits secure amid shattered glass after owner was thrown through car's sunroof." The driver, a 31-year-old Los Angeles resident, was driving his 1987 Nissan Maxima south on the Long Beach Freeway near Washington Boulevard in Commerce when he drifted to the right and struck the rail. He flew out of the sunroof, traveled about 35 feet, then landed down into a chain-link fence. Unlike his stuffed passenger, the driver was not buckled in and died at the scene.
