Photograph was edited for publication purposes Devonshire Downs was a horse racing track and multipurpose facility in Northridge, California. It was located at the southwest corner of Devonshire Street and Zelzah Avenue, east of Reseda Boulevard. Horse racing ended in the 1960s. The site is now owned by the California State University, Northridge, which renamed it North Campus. Photograph caption dated November 8, 1961 reads "Los Angeles County Sheriff Peter J. Pitchess inspected his mounted posse Sunday at Devonshire Downs, 18000 Devonshire St., Northridge. Some 500 volunteer horsemen, assigned to 13 sheriff's stations throughout the county, were at the annual inspection. Certificates were presented in recognition of outstanding efforts of the posse."
