Description
Photograph of a friar gesturing to a memorial for Father Junipero Serra, [s.d.]. The monk can be seen standing at left and wearing a dark robe and gesturing with his left hand towards a large monument behind him. The monk is wearing small round glasses and is holding a flower wreath. The monument consists of a bust of Serra carved in relief and surrounded by ornate carvings and statues of candles. Words are visible under the carvings. A palm tree is visible at left. The text on the monument reads as follows: "In the memory of Fray Junipero Serra and to his fellow pioneers whose saintly devotion and dauntless courage established Christianity and civilization in Alta California, 1918".
